STEP 12 reports semaglutide results in Chinese adults

The phase 3b trial broadens evidence in a Chinese population while leaving population and health-system differences relevant.

What happened

The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology published STEP 12, a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3b trial in Chinese adults with overweight or obesity.

What we know

The study evaluated weekly semaglutide over the protocol-defined period and assessed weight change, categorical targets and safety. It adds representation for a population less prominent in early global trials.

Limitations

The findings describe the included population and do not guarantee the same outcome for every person. Sponsor involvement, declared conflicts, study duration and eligibility criteria all matter.

Why it matters

The paper broadens the international evidence base but does not itself change authorised indications in Europe or other markets.
