Phase 3 trial publishes survodutide results in adults with obesity

SYNCHRONIZE-1 studied an investigational medicine; published trial findings are not regulatory approval.

What happened

The New England Journal of Medicine published SYNCHRONIZE-1, a randomised controlled phase 3 trial of once-weekly survodutide in adults with obesity.

What we know

Survodutide targets glucagon and GLP-1 receptors. The paper reports efficacy and safety outcomes against placebo within the population and follow-up studied.

What we do not know

The trial does not yet show how treatment performs outside the protocol, over much longer periods or against every available alternative. Survodutide remains investigational; publication is not authorisation.

Why it matters

The trial adds phase 3 evidence for a different dual pathway. Scientific findings, future regulatory assessment and individual clinical decisions must remain distinct.
